Aga Khan IV Honored at Private Funeral in Lisbon

The late Ismaili Muslim leader, known for his global philanthropy, is succeeded by his son, Aga Khan V.

  • Prince Karim al-Husseini, Aga Khan IV, passed away on February 5 at the age of 88 in Lisbon, Portugal.
  • A private funeral ceremony was held on February 8 at the Ismaili Center in Lisbon, attended by over 300 dignitaries, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
  • The Aga Khan's burial is scheduled for February 9 in Aswan, Egypt, during another private ceremony.
  • His son, Prince Rahim al-Husseini, has been named Aga Khan V and will officially assume the role in a ceremony on February 11 in Lisbon.
  • Aga Khan IV was celebrated for his leadership of the Ismaili community and his work through the Aga Khan Development Network, which focused on poverty alleviation, education, and healthcare in Asia and Africa.
