AG-59 Final Stretch Closed Overnight for Paving in Pontevea

The closure seeks to finish paving at the AC-841/AC-241 junction to limit daytime congestion.

Overview

  • Authorities will close the last stretch of the AG-59 from 20:00 on Monday 24 to 07:00 on Tuesday 25 and require all vehicles to leave the autovía at the A Ramallosa (exit 6) detour.
  • Work crews will complete asphalt repairs at the intersection of the AC-841 and AC-241 overnight while Calle Ignacio Varela in Pontevea remains reduced to a single alternating lane for local traffic.
  • The night schedule follows heavy daytime queues during earlier paving on 12–13 August that blocked traffic from the recently opened autovía and reached as far as Couso near the Ulla bridge.
  • The Pontevea interventions form part of a larger contract covering other regional roads and sit within the Xunta de Galicia’s €71.6 million road maintenance program for the year.
  • The closure comes as the AG-59 extension between Pontevea and O Rollo continues in construction since November 2025, a roughly 4-kilometre, €31m-plus project due for completion in 2028 that will restore continuous autovía access toward A Estrada.
