After Leh Clashes, Ladakh and J&K Intensify Security; LG Sinha Orders Reopening of 12 Tourist Sites

Overview

  • Ladakh officials confirmed four deaths and around 90 injuries from the Leh clashes, with SNM Hospital reporting multiple surgeries and 18 patients still admitted after initial discharges.
  • Ladakh LG Kavinder Gupta chaired law-and-order reviews, urged vigilance against anti-social and anti-national elements, and directed continuous ground monitoring and strengthened intelligence.
  • Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma met LG Gupta in Leh to discuss the situation and civil–military coordination, a day after activist Sonam Wangchuk was detained under the NSA.
  • In Srinagar, LG Manoj Sinha led the Unified Headquarters review with senior Army, police and intelligence officials, stating the war on terrorism continues and calling for kinetic and non-kinetic operations.
  • Following the UHQ review, Sinha announced that 12 tourist spots closed after the April Pahalgam attack will reopen on September 29, including Aru Valley and Kaman Post in Kashmir and sites in Ramban, Kathua, Reasi and Doda, as security forces also pursued a developing encounter at Seoj Dhar.
