Overview
- Nice prosecutor Damien Martinelli said an autopsy will be conducted Thursday and that multiple interviews and extensive seizures of equipment and videos have not yet clarified the cause.
- The 46-year-old, known as Jean Pormanove or JP, was seen unresponsive on a Kick livestream that had run more than 298 hours, with footage showing failed attempts to rouse him before the stream was cut.
- Kick announced it has banned all co-streamers involved in the broadcast, pledged to cooperate with authorities, and launched a review of its French-language content.
- Digital minister Clara Chappaz reported the case to Arcom and Pharos and contacted Kick’s leadership, while Arcom noted it can enforce EU obligations even if the platform lacks an EU legal representative.
- The new probe runs in parallel with a December 2024 investigation into alleged violence against vulnerable people, during which two associates were detained in January, as officials also examine donation-driven incentives seen on the streams, including a counter reading €36,411; a lawyer for “Narutovie” says his client bears no responsibility.
