After 'H Files' Release, Election Commission Denies Rahul Gandhi’s Haryana Voter-Fraud Charge

The poll body countered by citing zero appeals in Haryana, questioning his stance on the SIR process.

Overview

  • At a Nov. 5 press conference, Rahul Gandhi alleged 25 lakh improper entries in the 2024 Haryana rolls and said one in eight voters was fake.
  • He presented a breakdown—5.21 lakh duplicates, 93,174 invalid entries and 19.26 lakh “bulk” voters—and showed examples including a photo used 223 times and a woman he said is a Brazilian model appearing on 22 IDs across 10 booths.
  • Gandhi accused the Election Commission of aiding the BJP, claimed postal ballots pointed to a Congress lead, and alleged some BJP figures were registered in two states.
  • The Election Commission rejected the allegations, noted there were zero appeals against the Haryana rolls, questioned why Congress booth-level agents filed no objections during revisions, and asked whether Gandhi supports the SIR clean-up now underway.
  • The dispute is energizing opposition campaigns against SIR in other states, with TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee calling it a conspiracy and Priyanka Gandhi alleging large-scale deletions in Bihar a day before phase I voting.
