After Court Clearance, ‘Ajey’ Eyes OTT Release as Director Details CBFC Demands

The bench found no obscenity or defamation after reviewing the film in court.

Overview

  • On August 25, the Bombay High Court directed the CBFC to grant a certificate to Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi without cuts.
  • The director, Ravindra Gautam, says the Examining Committee initially rejected the film and sought 29 cuts as well as a No Objection Certificate from Yogi Adityanath.
  • Gautam alleges the board acted without first watching the movie and cites an objection to a scene where the protagonist wipes vulgar graffiti in a men’s restroom.
  • News18 reports the CBFC’s counsel acknowledged in court he had not seen the film, and judges accepted a revised disclaimer after noting the content was neither obscene nor defamatory.
  • The filmmakers have not announced a new theatrical date, and Gautam has begun talks with streaming platforms for a possible OTT release of the biopic adapted from Shantanu Gupta’s book and starring Anant V Joshi.
