Overview

  • Mayor Johnson installed a new board that voted to remove Martinez in December, prompting his lawsuit contesting the firing.
  • Martinez filed defamation lawsuits against CTU President Stacy Davis-Gates and Board President Sean Harden over public remarks they made.
  • He declined a $300 million loan to fund a teachers’ contract, called it fiscally irresponsible and urged tapping Tax Increment Financing revenues while facing a $529 million deficit.
