After 53 Years And DNA Breakthrough, 'Trunk Lady' Cold Case Finally Solved

Sylvia June Atherton, a 41-year-old mother of five from Tucson, Arizona, was found strangled to death in a trunk in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1969.
Thanks to advanced DNA testing of a hair sample and genealogical research, Atherton was finally identified in 2022.
Atherton's killer remains unknown, as do the whereabouts of two of her children who disappeared with her.
Atherton's daughter expressed relief at her mother receiving an identity after over five decades.
Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding Atherton's murder or missing children.
