Overview
- The Taliban provisional government said fatalities in hard-hit Kunar province climbed to 2,205 and injuries to 3,640 after more bodies were found in collapsed homes.
- Authorities noted the increase of more than 700 deaths from the previous day and said searches are accelerating although the number of missing remains unclear.
- The Sept. 2 aftershock measured magnitude 5.2 in the same area, following the initial magnitude 6.0 quake late on Aug. 31 at a depth of about 8 kilometers, according to the USGS.
- The Afghan Red Crescent earlier reported 1,124 dead and 3,251 injured and said more than 8,000 houses were damaged across affected areas.
