Affidavit Says Sisters Reached 92 and 76 mph Before Fayetteville Crash That Killed 3 Players

A court filing cites video analysis calculating speeds at roughly double the limit to support the pending charges.

Overview

  • A police affidavit and video analysis place a Honda Civic at about 92 mph and a Dodge Charger at about 76 mph in a 45 mph zone on Rosehill Road.
  • Driver Dymond Monroe, 21, faces three counts of involuntary manslaughter and multiple misdemeanors after the Oct. 8 crash that killed three E. E. Smith High School football players.
  • Destini Genwright, 19, is charged with misdemeanor racing, speeding, reckless driving and an insurance violation, and she was released on a $10,000 bond after turning herself in.
  • The victims were identified as Jai’Hyon Elliott, 18, Trevor Merritt, 17, and Nicholas Williams, 17, who were being driven home from football practice.
  • Investigators say two independent videos informed the speed calculations, the affidavit notes Genwright’s auto insurance was terminated in July, and the next court hearing is set for Dec. 5.
