Afep Publishes 2024 Contribution Study to Shape 2026 Budget Debate

The big-company lobby seeks to sway fiscal choices using its own tally of taxes, jobs, research.

  • At an unusually public press conference on 24 September in Paris, Afep presented its tenth annual survey of members’ economic and social footprint.
  • The association reports €85.1 billion paid in 2024 in taxes, contributions and charges, including €53.6 billion on labor, €12.4 billion on profits and €6.5 billion on production, accounting for about 19% of corporate levies.
  • Afep says its 117 companies account for roughly 13% of market GDP and 2.1 million jobs in France, with average net pay 22% above the national figure and €3,648 per employee in annual profit-sharing.
  • Members are credited by Afep with half of private-sector research in France, spending about €20 billion on R&D and employing 110,000 researchers.
  • The release targets the 2026 budget debate after a temporary 2025 profit contribution estimated by the government at around €8 billion, as MEDEF chief Patrick Martin announces a large employer meeting in the coming days.
