AfD Jumps to 39% in Saxony-Anhalt as CDU Slips in New Infratest Poll

The first post-Haseloff survey underscores a volatile landscape one year before the 2026 vote.

Overview

  • Infratest dimap surveyed 1,167 eligible voters in Saxony-Anhalt for Magdeburger Volksstimme, Mitteldeutsche Zeitung and MDR from 28 August to 2 September via phone and online.
  • Reported shares: AfD 39%, CDU 27%, Die Linke 13%, SPD 7%, BSW 6%, Greens 3% and FDP below 5%, placing Greens and FDP at risk of missing Landtag representation.
  • Compared with the previous Infratest reference, AfD is up about 19 points and the CDU down about six, whereas an INSA survey in June showed a much narrower race.
  • This is the first poll since Minister-President Reiner Haseloff said he will not run again and proposed Sven Schulze as the CDU’s lead candidate.
  • The state election is scheduled for 6 September 2026, and pollsters emphasize these figures are a snapshot with typical margins of error rather than a forecast.
