Overview
- Mohun Bagan failed to report to Isfahan for the 30 September Group C match against Sepahan, the AFC announced.
- Invoking Article 5.2, the AFC deemed the team withdrawn, and under Articles 5.6 and 8.3 it voided Mohun Bagan’s earlier result, erasing points and goals including the 0-1 home loss to Ahal FK.
- The matter now goes to the relevant AFC committee for a decision, with competition rules allowing a fine of at least $50,000 and a possible ban for one or more seasons.
- The club said six foreign players refused to travel to Iran due to advisories from their countries, and an internal meeting aborted a planned flight despite e-visas being issued.
- This is the second straight season the ISL champions have been ruled withdrawn after declining an Iran trip, following last year’s no-show against Tractor SC.
