AFAC Revokes Magnicharters' Operator Certificate

The regulator says the move protects passenger safety by citing failures to meet required corrective measures.

Overview

  • The AFAC revoked Magnicharters' Certificado de Explotador de Servicios Aéreos on Monday, June 29, after concluding the airline's documentation was insufficient to prove it had completed ordered safety fixes.
  • The review began with a Verificación Mayor Extraordinaria from January 12–16 that found breaches of aviation rules and required the carrier to fix specific operational, technical and documentary deficiencies.
  • After the company failed to show compliance the agency suspended Magnicharters' flights on April 14 and then issued the definitive revocation on June 29, which bars the airline from legally operating under that authorization.
  • Grupo Aéreo Monterrey, the carrier's parent, has a voluntary concurso mercantil now in the visita stage and faces reported liabilities near MXN 800 million, including roughly MXN 80 million owed to Mexico City airport.
  • Hundreds of passengers have filed complaints with PROFECO after cancelled flights and closed customer channels, leaving many seeking refunds and creating creditor claims that will be weighed in the insolvency process.
