Overview
- Aena said Spanish airports handled 33.3 million passengers in August (+3.8%), with 262,000 flights (+3%) and 110,000 tonnes of cargo (+5.4%), while the wider group neared 39 million passengers (+4%).
- Barcelona-El Prat logged 5.67 million passengers in August (+4.8%) and more than 16.5 million between June and August, with international travel driving the increase.
- Málaga set its best August with 2.86 million passengers (+7.9%), and Valencia posted a record 1.18 million, driven by a 9% rise in international traffic.
- Aena reported record activity across the network, including at Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona, Palma, Ibiza, Valencia, Lanzarote, Menorca, Tenerife Norte, Melilla and La Gomera.
- Galicia posted the weakest figures, with Santiago down 10% in August to 346,012 and 12.8% lower year to date, while Vigo fell 4.4% in August but is up 7.8% in 2025 and A Coruña rose 4.2%; Ryanair cut about 800,000 summer seats at regional airports, yet carried 20.82 million passengers in Spain in June–August and plans further winter reductions as it contests Aena’s proposed 6.5% fee rise.
