Aemet Forecasts Weather Swing: East Storms Monday, Fog Midweek, Atlantic Rains to Start 2026

Aemet singles out the Valencian coast for Monday hazards under yellow alerts.

Overview

  • Locally very strong, persistent showers with thunderstorms are forecast on Monday for the eastern peninsula, Alborán and the Balearic Islands, with hail possible and snow levels near 1,400–1,700 meters in the east.
  • Yellow alerts are in place Monday morning for Valencia and Castellón and from 08:00 to 18:00 for Alicante due to intense rain and storms.
  • Anticyclonic conditions are expected Tuesday and Wednesday with dense, sometimes freezing fog in interior Galicia, northeastern depressions and the Northern Plateau, alongside colder nights and inland frosts.
  • A shift early in 2026 is expected as high pressure retreats and Atlantic systems bring widespread rain—first in the Canary Islands on January 1 and likely reaching the western peninsula from January 2—with higher totals in the western third, Pyrenees, Alborán and the Canaries and mountain snow.
  • Regional outlooks point to weak, occasional showers and persistent fog in Extremadura, clearing but cold conditions in Córdoba, and a marked improvement in the Valencian Community from Tuesday with brighter, colder days into New Year’s Eve.
