ADR Report: 40% of India’s Chief Ministers Disclosed Criminal Cases

The report coincides with bills to remove leaders arrested for 30 days on serious criminal charges.

Overview

  • The analysis draws on the self-sworn affidavits filed by all 30 sitting chief ministers before their most recent elections.
  • Ten chief ministers reported at least one serious case, including allegations such as attempt to murder, kidnapping, bribery, or criminal intimidation.
  • Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy disclosed 89 cases, the highest total, followed by Tamil Nadu chief minister M. K. Stalin with 47.
