Adobe Adds Acrobat PDF Tools to WhatsApp Web and Windows

Overview

• Adobe announced on Wednesday that Acrobat tools are built into WhatsApp Web and the WhatsApp app for Windows so users can open and work on PDFs inside chats without downloading files.
• Users can view, scroll, zoom and apply lightweight markups such as highlight, underline, strike-through and freehand drawing directly in the chat window.
• Adobe says the feature supports password-protected PDFs through what it calls Acrobat Trust and that files shared in chats remain protected by WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption.
• The rollout is live only for WhatsApp Web and the Windows app for now, and Adobe frames the move as part of a plan to add Acrobat to other platforms where people work.
• Adobe and reporters note the change targets real-world uses like reviewing invoices, contracts, forms, and student assignments and could speed small business and school workflows by removing the download step.
