Aditya Sahu Is Sole Nominee for Jharkhand BJP President With Decision Due Jan. 14

Party leaders say the unopposed run caps a year-long internal election process in the state.

  • Only one nomination was filed for the state president post by Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu after the Jan. 13 noon–2 p.m. window closed, the election officer Jual Oram said.
  • Scrutiny of papers is slated by 3 p.m. with withdrawals by 5 p.m. on Jan. 13, and the formal announcement is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Carnival Hall on Harmu Road in Ranchi.
  • A vote on Jan. 14 will not be required since no rival nomination was received for the top post.
  • Twenty-one nominations were submitted for National Council positions from Jharkhand, including filings by Arjun Munda, Raghubar Das, Madhu Kora, Champai Soren, Sanjay Seth, Karia Munda, Deepak Prakash and Annapurna Devi.
  • Sahu has been serving as the working president since Oct. 3 and is positioned to succeed Babulal Marandi as the state unit chief.
