Adif Opens €49.32M Tender for Gijón Plan de Vías First Phase

The contract launches major sewer replacement and site works needed to clear former rail land and enable the later construction of a new intermodal station.

Overview

  • Adif published the tender for the first phase of Gijón’s plan de vías and opened the bidding period, with offers due roughly by mid-December.
  • The contract is valued at €49.32 million and covers preparatory works rather than the station itself.
  • Work will start with replacement of damaged sanitary collectors, beginning with the pozo de cruce for a new main collector that measures 7.3 metres by 2.5 metres interior, plus two smaller secondary collectors.
  • The package also includes demolition of the Carlos Marx viaduct and regrading of the former railway land so the site can be handed over for the next-phase construction of the intermodal station.
  • Central government authorization by the Consejo de Ministros and final approval from Adif’s board clear procurement and budgetary hurdles and move the project from planning into execution, which will bring months of construction and local disruption before station construction can begin.
