Overview
- Adif tendered a roughly €400,000 second hydrogeological study for the 53.7 km direct AVE via Cerdedo to track aquifer risks from heavy tunneling.
- The agency says this monitoring will run in parallel with the complementary environmental study, which it expects to finish in early 2027 for approval in the third quarter.
- Separately, Adif awarded €4.72 million to draft upgrades for the 96 km Guillarei–Ourense section, including new ballast, sleepers and rail plus 750 meter freight sidings at Barbantes, Filgueira and Salvaterra.
- The design brief also calls for unified electrification across the route to meet Atlantic Corridor standards and a rework of tracks and platforms at other stations.
- On the ground, crews are renewing track between Chapela and Vigo-Guixar, installing ten new high-performance turnouts in Redondela and Chapela, upgrading drainage in the A Guía tunnel, and Adif has flagged more than €90 million in upcoming contracts including €50.6 million to waterproof the leak-prone As Maceiras tunnel with tendering planned for the third quarter and work expected in 2027.
