Overview

  • Over 213,000 cyclists rated safety, infrastructure and comfort in the ADFC-Fahrradklima-Test 2024 covering 1,047 municipalities.
  • Freiburg and Karlsruhe topped the rankings for large Baden-Württemberg cities while Tübingen and Ettlingen led their size categories with features like heated bridges and bike garages.
  • Poing achieved the highest score (3.3) in the Ebersberg district and Sonthofen ranked best among Allgäu towns benefiting from bike-sharing expansions.
  • Kaufbeuren and Kempten received some of the lowest grades due to narrow bike lanes, limited one-way street openings and challenging bike-to-transit links.
  • Cities including Germering have rolled out new bike lanes, parking facilities and route lighting to address safety gaps yet cyclists continue to report theft and construction zone issues.
