Adelaide Renames CBD Laneway Hilltop Hoods Lane

City leaders say the honour recognises the trio's role in bringing Australian hip hop into the mainstream by permanently marking their connection to Adelaide's City of Music laneway trail.

Overview

  • Clubhouse Lane off Hindley Street was officially renamed Hilltop Hoods Lane at a ceremony on Thursday that included the band, friends and family and Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith.
  • Two large-scale murals by Adelaide artist Vans the Omega were unveiled along the laneway to visually celebrate the group's local roots and public legacy.
  • The lane is the sixth stop on the City of Adelaide's City of Music laneway trail, making this the first laneway in Australia dedicated to a hip-hop group.
  • Universal Music Australia chief Sean Warner presented the band with a plaque recognising the single '1955' for surpassing one million ARIA single sales and its multi‑Platinum accreditation.
  • The honour builds on Hilltop Hoods' three-decade career—including seven ARIA number-one albums, multiple ARIA and APRA awards, more than one million album sales and roughly two billion streams—and anchors Adelaide's long-running effort to map its music history on the city's streets.
