Overview
- APSEZ announced on Friday that it has launched a dedicated Empty Container Yard (ECY) with integrated warehousing at Mundra to manage the full empty-container lifecycle.
- The ECY will provide storage, maintenance and inspection and will move empties directly to exporters and container freight stations to reduce needless repositioning trips.
- Adani said the yard will be run by APSEZ and/or partners, including CFS operators and shipping lines, to improve coordination with Customs, terminal operators and transporters.
- The move is a near-term step in APSEZ’s Ambition 2031 plan as the company aims to add more than 6 million TEUs of handling capacity over the next five years and grow throughput toward its 2030 target.
- APSEZ highlighted scale factors behind the launch — a 45.5% share of India’s container market, Mundra’s handling of nearly 35% of national container trade, and about 1.6 million empty TEUs at Mundra annually — and said the ECY should lower logistics costs and speed export‑import flows.
