Overview

  • Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone officially commissioned the 1.1-kilometer steel slag road at Hazira Port on July 5, 2025, marking the first use of this technology inside a private maritime terminal.
  • The pavement connects the Multi-Purpose Berth 1 to the coal yard using processed steel slag aggregates, a byproduct of steel production that delivers high-performance durability.
  • Developed under Phase II of the Bulk and General Cargo Terminal expansion in partnership with CSIR-CRRI and the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, the project leverages research-driven design.
  • CSIR-CRRI’s flexible pavement design boosts load-bearing capacity and lifespan, cutting construction costs and reducing the port’s carbon footprint.
  • The initiative advances India’s waste-to-wealth mission by transforming industrial waste into sustainable maritime logistics infrastructure.
