Adani Calls for Tech Self-Reliance, Launches AdaniIIT Fellowship, Touts 30 GW Renewable Park

He warned that heavy reliance on foreign supply chains leaves India vulnerable.

Overview

  • Speaking at IIT Kharagpur’s 75th Foundation Day on Aug. 18, Gautam Adani framed technological self-reliance as a “second freedom struggle” and urged students to become “new freedom fighters.”
  • Adani cited import dependence of roughly 90% for semiconductors and 85% for oil, warning that a single disruption or sanction could freeze the digital economy or constrain growth.
  • He argued that modern conflict is technology-driven, saying wars are waged in server farms with algorithms and botnets, and cautioned that imported military systems bind security to foreign political will and supply chains.
  • He announced the Adani–IIT Platinum Jubilee Change Makers Fellowship, coordinated by IIT Kharagpur and covering every IIT, to steer top talent into projects in renewable energy, logistics and smart mobility, alongside proposals for “living laboratories.”
  • Adani said his group is building what he called the world’s largest renewable energy park at Khavda in Gujarat’s Kutch district with 30 GW across about 500 sq km, and he said India will lead global renewables within five years.
