Adams Condemns Antisemitism in NYC, Decries Governors Island Display and Rebukes Mamdani

Mayor Eric Adams warned that anti-Jewish hatred is spreading in New York City and called the recent Governors Island installation "beyond the pale." The unsanctioned display featured messages like "Hamas Lover," a fake "F—k Israel Ln" sign, and imagery equating Zionism with Nazism, and it was removed within hours. Swale, which operates the space, disavowed the exhibit as unauthorized, said it was a deliberate act by an outside artist, and stated the unapproved artist and the resident who invited her would not be allowed back. Adams criticized mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani over past refusal to condemn the phrase "globalize the intifada"; Mamdani’s campaign declined to comment. Citing public safety concerns, Adams said Jews account for 57% of reported hate-crime victims in the city and referenced the recent Midtown assault on Israeli tourist Rami Glickstein.
