Adam Somner, Acclaimed Assistant Director and Producer, Dies at 57

Somner, known for collaborations with Spielberg, Scorsese, and Anderson, passed away from anaplastic thyroid cancer on November 27.

Adam Somner was a highly respected first assistant director and producer who worked on over 75 films, including Oscar-winning titles like 'Birdman' and 'Gladiator.'
He collaborated extensively with filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, and Paul Thomas Anderson across his decades-long career.
Somner received numerous accolades, including an Oscar nomination for producing 'Licorice Pizza' and a DGA Award for his work on 'The Revenant.'
Directors praised his organizational expertise, creative contributions, and ability to foster a collaborative and supportive environment on set.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Ruiz de Huidobro, his children, Olivia and Bosco, and his brother, Mark Somner; a DGA scholarship will be established in his honor.
