Overview

  • The ADAC expects the heaviest traffic on Wednesday between 13:00 and 19:00 when commuters and holiday drivers converge on key routes.
  • More than 1,200 active roadworks sites nationwide will narrow lanes and intensify stop-and-go conditions, especially in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
  • Key bottlenecks include the A9 Munich-Berlin, A5 Heidelberg-Karlsruhe and A7 Hamburg-Flensburg corridors as well as sections around Berlin, Hannover and Frankfurt.
  • Return journeys on Sunday afternoon should be busy but less severe without weekday commuters on the roads.
  • Motorists are advised to travel early or late, check real-time traffic updates, plan alternative routes and expect longer waits at border crossings due to tougher controls.
