ADAC Warns of Major Traffic Jams Over Germany’s Unity Day Weekend

ADAC expects the heaviest delays on Thursday afternoon with a secondary peak on Sunday.

Overview

  • To ease flows, a driving ban for heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes applies on German autobahns on Friday.
  • In Baden-Württemberg, the A5, A6, A8 and A81 are flagged for significant disruptions in both directions.
  • In Bavaria, congestion is expected on the A3, A6, A7, A8, A9, A93, the A95/B2 toward Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the A99 ring, with Oktoberfest adding traffic around Munich.
  • Alpine corridors are considered high risk, including the Tauern, Inntal, Rheintal, Fernpass, Brenner and Gotthard routes, with Luegbrücke works and exit bans on the Inntalautobahn increasing delay risk.
  • Traffic should be lightest on Saturday, while Friday is expected to be busy mainly in the morning hours.
