ADAC Warns of Heavy Autobahn Traffic for Oct. 17–19 Holiday Weekend

ADAC urges off-peak departures due to holiday travel, construction zones, plus some border checks.

Overview

  • Friday afternoon and Saturday morning carry the highest risk as holidaymakers mix with commuters.
  • ADAC flags congestion on key corridors including A1, A3, A7, A8, A9 and Munich’s A99, plus routes to the North and Baltic seas.
  • Roughly 1,300 construction sites and checks at entries from Austria as well as at the Polish, Czech, French and Swiss borders could add delays.
  • In the Hamburg area, ADAC Hansa urges wide detours around the Norderelbbrücken, recommends the A21 as an alternative to A1/A7, and warns of queues toward coastal resorts and the Sylt car train.
  • The A7 Elbtunnel full closure is postponed to Nov. 7–10; ADAC recommends traveling Friday evening or early Saturday, avoiding detours unless necessary, slowing for fog and fitting winter tires in higher Alpine areas.
