Overview
- ADAC and diagnostics firm Aviloo analyzed about 28,500 State of Health measurements from PHEVs built by BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen Group and Volvo.
- Brand patterns emerged: Mercedes showed the least degradation, VW Group and Volvo tracked typical wear, BMW and Ford displayed greater sensitivity or early-ageing trends, and Mitsubishi was flagged for pronounced early losses that later stabilize.
- Greater shares of electrically driven kilometres correlate with faster capacity loss, and ADAC advises keeping charge roughly between 20% and 80% to slow ageing.
- For used-car assessments, ADAC sets SoH benchmarks of at least 92% at 50,000 km, 88% at 100,000 km, 84% at 150,000 km and 80% at 200,000 km, and recommends the Aviloo Flash Test offered at ADAC locations.
- Battery warranties typically run 6–8 years or about 100,000–160,000 km and often omit explicit SoH thresholds, while most PHEV packs are still expected to last roughly a vehicle’s lifetime.
