ADAC Flags Steep Fuel Premiums at German Autobahn Stations

The ADAC analysis shows average premiums of about €0.44 for Super E10, €0.42 for diesel per liter at motorway stations with extra costs reaching €22 on a 50-liter fill.

  • German fuel prices have fallen to multi-month lows following OPEC+ output increases; national averages remain above mid-2024 levels.
  • The ADAC’s July sample shows Super E10 at motorway stations is on average €0.44 more expensive per liter than at off-highway outlets; diesel carries a €0.42 premium.
  • About 90 percent of motorway stations levy a minimum premium of €0.30 per liter for Super E10, 88 percent for diesel; peak surcharges topped €0.57 for petrol, nearly €0.54 for diesel.
  • Motorists face extra costs of up to €22 on a 50-liter Super E10 fill and about €21 on a comparable diesel fill when refueling at motorway stations.
  • The ADAC recommends exiting highways to refuel at off-highway stations, filling up in the evening when prices can be up to €0.13 lower per liter.
