Actor Song Young-kyu Found Dead Inside Parked Car in Yongin

Studios are finalizing edits to remove his performances from ongoing dramas following his DUI scandal.

  • Song Young-kyu, 55, was found dead inside a parked car in Yongin on Aug. 4 after an acquaintance discovered him at around 8 a.m.
  • Police reported no signs of foul play or a note at the scene and have opened an investigation that includes questioning his family and weighing an autopsy.
  • He faced prosecution after a June 19 incident in which he drove roughly 5 km in Yongin with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
  • Following the DUI controversy, Song withdrew from the stage play Shakespeare In Love and production teams edited his scenes in The Defects and The Winning Try.
  • A veteran since 1994, he appeared in more than 40 dramas and films and was best known for his role as Chief Choi in the 2019 hit Extreme Job.
