Actor Kenshin Endo Arrested on Suspicion of Joint Cannabis Possession With Hinya Shimizu

Police say the case centers on suspected joint possession linked to a small quantity seized at Shimizu’s home.

Overview

  • Tokyo police arrested Endo, 24, on Sept. 24 on suspicion he and Hinya Shimizu jointly possessed about 0.39–0.4 grams of dried cannabis at Shimizu’s Suginami residence around Sept. 1.
  • Endo denies the allegation, telling investigators he has never possessed or used cannabis and that anything seen at the home was not his.
  • Officers searched Shimizu’s home on Sept. 3 and found a bag containing dried cannabis in a room, leading detectives to question Endo about his visits there.
  • Prosecutors indicted Shimizu, 26, on Sept. 22 for violating the Narcotics Control Law, and a woman who lives with him was not prosecuted.
  • Police also arrested a man in his 20s suspected of buying the drug, are examining possible repeated group use, and say the man admitted purchasing about 2 grams for four people.
