Activision Introduces Server Culling to Block Wallhacks in Modern Warfare 4

By withholding location data for opponents a player cannot see, the map-level system aims to make wallhacks far less effective.

Overview

  • Infinity Ward announced Server Culling on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, and said the feature is already built into every MW4 launch map and will extend to DMZ, Combat Outpost and maps released from Season 1 onward.
  • Server Culling uses map-level occlusion layers to stop the server from sending position data for opponents who are hidden behind terrain or structures until they become visible to the player.
  • The developer says the system is designed to operate alongside existing RICOCHET anti-cheat measures and will not change how the game looks or plays for legitimate players.
  • Activision frames the move as a way to disrupt the cheat marketplace, but independent verification of how much it will reduce live wallhack use is not yet available and cheaters could adapt over time.
  • The announcement follows broader steps by Activision against cheats, including legal action and public enforcement, and comes as the company cites a multi-billion-dollar global cheat market as part of the rationale for new measures.
