Overview

  • A coalition led by the ACLU of Southern California and Public Counsel filed a class-action complaint Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against DHS and ICE officials.
  • The filing alleges ICE agents have conducted warrantless stops and arrests of individuals with brown skin without probable cause or proper identification since June 6.
  • Plaintiffs describe detainees being held in overcrowded, “dungeon-like” facilities lacking food, medical care, hygiene and access to attorneys.
  • DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin refutes claims of racial profiling and poor detention conditions, calling profiling allegations “disgusting and categorically false.”
  • More than 1,500 people have been detained across seven Southern California counties during the intensified raids, prompting plaintiffs to pursue an injunction ahead of an expected court hearing.
