ACE and ADAC Warn of Heavy Traffic Oct. 31–Nov. 2 Across Germany and Alpine Routes

Overlapping holidays, a Bavarian school break plus construction bottlenecks are expected to slow key corridors, straining airports.

Overview

  • Traffic clubs forecast the strongest queues Friday afternoon and Saturday, with return flows Sunday afternoon and evening, and an early lift Thursday where Friday is a holiday.
  • Congestion risk is highest around Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart and on trunk autobahns such as the A1, A3, A5, A7, A8, A9, A10, A24, A61, A81 and Munich’s A99.
  • Alpine corridors face extra delays from works: the Brenner route narrowed at the Luegbrücke, additional construction toward the pass and on the Italian side, plus single-lane control on the Reschenpass.
  • Cross-border travel may slow at spot checks in Suben, Walserberg and Kiefersfelden, while Austria’s weekend transit exit bans remain in force through 2 November and the Mont-Blanc tunnel stays shut until mid-December.
  • Air travel surges as Munich projects about 1.2 million passengers and 8,300 movements from 31 Oct to 9 Nov, including roughly 128,000 on 31 Oct, while Nuremberg expects about 140,000 travelers; ADAC suggests the San Bernardino A13 as an alternative if Gotthard delays exceed an hour.
