Acclaimed Film Critic Justin Chang Joins The New Yorker Amid LA Times Layoffs

Acclaimed film critic Justin Chang is leaving the Los Angeles Times to join The New Yorker, starting his new position on February 12.
Chang's move comes amid significant layoffs at the LA Times, with 115 staff members, or 20% of the newsroom, recently losing their jobs.
At The New Yorker, Chang's arrival will allow longtime critic Anthony Lane to expand his coverage to essays and reported features.
Chang has been named film critic of the year at the Los Angeles Press Club’s National Arts and Entertainment Awards and serves as chair of the National Society of Film Critics.
Despite being based in Los Angeles, Chang will visit The New Yorker's New York offices from time to time.
