Overview
- This week Accell Group launched formal insolvency proceedings and filed a Notice of Intention for its UK arm, Accell UK & Ireland, triggering temporary protection from creditor action while administrators are appointed.
- Chief executive Jonas Nilsson said the group had “tirelessly explored” options and exhausted realistic routes to keep the business running before starting the insolvency process.
- The NOI gives roughly 10 days of protection for administrators to review the company, test sale options for brands or divisions, and decide whether any parts can be rescued or must be wound down.
- The move puts the historic Raleigh name, the Eastwood offices and remaining UK jobs at risk after years of losses, a 2024 round of redundancies, and a reported pre-tax loss of about £30 million in 2023.
- The collapse reflects wider industry pressures from post-pandemic demand drops, excess stock and competition from lower-cost producers and follows Accell’s 2022 buyout by private equity firm KKR and a February 2026 restructuring that failed to find a lasting buyer.
