Overview

  • The ACCC lodged a Federal Court suit on June 12 alleging that Jayco misled buyers by depicting its caravans used off-road beyond their warranty limits.
  • Advertisements for models like the CrossTrak show caravans being towed through water and driven in Queensland’s Kinkuna National Park, which is restricted to 4WD vehicles.
  • The ACCC contends Jayco promoted off-road features with slogans such as “all terrain” despite its warranties excluding damage from water crossings, uneven surfaces and 4WD-only tracks.
  • Jayco categorically denies any misrepresentation in its marketing and says it will vigorously defend the lawsuit to uphold its reputation for quality and customer support.
  • The ACCC is seeking penalties, injunctions, publication orders, legal costs and a declaration of wrongdoing after Jayco paid a $75,000 fine in May 2021 over similar off-road claims.
