• Senior inspector Chandrakant Sarode and PSI Rahul Waghmode of Wadala TT police station were arrested while accepting Rs 2 lakh and Rs 30,000 during an ACB trap.
• The duo allegedly sought Rs 5 lakh for Sarode, later settled at Rs 4 lakh, and Rs 50,000 for Waghmode to avoid naming the complainant’s daughter in an FIR and to act against a rival group.
• The complainant reported the demand after Waghmode earlier collected Rs 20,000 on September 10, leading to verification and the staged instalment handover.
• The officers were booked under Section 7 of the evention of CoCorruption Act and are scheduled to be produced before a court on Saturday.
• In separate actions, an ASI in Thane was held for a Rs 25,000 bribe linked to returning a seized scooter, and Telangana ACB units recovered over Rs 3.5 lakh in two traps, including a Rs 3.5 lakh haul from a town planning officer.
