ACB Arrests J&K DDC Member for ₹5 Lakh School Bribe

  • The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau registered FIR No. 12/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act after receiving a written complaint against DDC member Mohammad Shaban Chopan.
  • ACB agents caught Chopan and his associate Ghulam Mohammad Khathana in a sting as they demanded and accepted ₹50,000 and a blank signed cheque from the complainant.
  • The complainant operates a scholar boarding school with a swimming pool and guest house in Dara Harwan, Srinagar, and sought official No Objection Certificates for its premises.
  • Investigators found that Chopan had arranged a formal inspection of the school to create leverage for extorting illegal gratification.
  • Further investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act is under way to probe the full extent of the extortion scheme.
