Overview

  • Narendra Hirey, 57, CIDCO telecom stenographer and newly elected employees’ union president, was caught red-handed accepting ₹1.5 lakh to expedite post-retirement dues and clear a pending inquiry.
  • Head Constable Roshan Din evaded capture for a week after taking ₹15,000 from a factory worker seeking to remove his name from an FIR before ACB officers arrested him and recovered the bribe.
  • Tehsildar Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Qaziabad, Handwara, was trapped after demanding ₹1 lakh in two installments for walnut-tree-cutting permissions and was seized with an initial ₹50,000 payment.
  • Each official is now facing charges under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and ACB investigations are probing links to other potentially complicit officers.
  • Civil society activists and law-enforcement leaders have urged CIDCO and other agencies to adopt routine internal audits and strengthen ethics training to curb future graft.
