Acadia Closes Cadillac Summit Road to Vehicles as Shutdown Continues

Most areas remain accessible with pared-back services plus limited staffing.

Overview

  • The park barred vehicle access to Cadillac Mountain’s summit road, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to reach the top, and forbidding parking along Park Loop Road at the base.
  • Park officials said on the website that future vehicle reservations will be decided daily and may be canceled or refunded without notice.
  • Hulls Cove Visitor Center remains closed, and Rockefeller Hall and the Sieur de Monts Nature Center are shut until further notice.
  • Campgrounds and popular spots such as Sand Beach and Thunder Hole remain open, and concession-run sites including Jordan Pond House and Wildwood Stables are operating.
  • The Island Explorer bus system continues service and the state-run Acadia Gateway Center is open, while most employees are furloughed, essential services persist, and entrance fees are not being collected.
