Abu Dhabi Unveils MENA’s First Dedicated Autonomous Vehicle Test Hub

The facility will link real-world validation to the ITC’s new AViTOMS oversight system to speed safe deployment.

Overview

  • The Integrated Transport Centre announced the Abu Dhabi AV Test Hub under the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council with partners Space42, Masdar City and Emirates Driving Company during DRIFTx 2025.
  • Phase one covering design and feasibility studies is slated for completion by the end of 2026.
  • The hub will replicate urban, suburban and mixed-use environments and integrate sensing networks, real-time analytics and digital twins for seamless connection to Abu Dhabi transport platforms including AViTOMS.
  • AViTOMS, launched a day earlier, centralises registration, permitting, four-phase testing oversight and real-time operations with interactive maps, incident dashboards, secure data exchange and an instant shutdown feature.
  • Officials frame the initiatives as advancing a safe, smart transport ecosystem, with the hub also serving training and research to build autonomous mobility skills across government, academia and industry.
