Abu Dhabi Launches Free Flow Paid Parking System Using ANPR and Darb Wallet

Q Mobility says the automated system will deduct fees on exit, speed payments, reduce manual transactions, lower the risk of fines.

Overview

  • Q Mobility announced the Free Flow Paid Parking System on Monday, June 1, saying it will use AI-powered automatic number-plate recognition to start and end parking sessions without tickets, QR codes or meter payments.
  • The system records a vehicle’s entry into a designated parking area, calculates the charge on exit, and automatically deducts the fee from the user’s Darb e-wallet.
  • Rollout will be phased with the service first appearing at several multistorey and selected private parking sites before wider expansion across the emirate in the coming months.
  • Q Mobility warned drivers to keep sufficient balance in their Darb wallet to ensure payments clear and avoid fines if an auto-charge fails.
  • The move follows recent paid-parking zone expansion in Abu Dhabi suburbs and aligns with a broader UAE shift to cashless parking, including Dubai’s phase-out of cash at meters, and is delivered by Q Mobility, created in 2024 by ADQ to run Darb and Mawaqif systems.
