Abortion Rights Campaigns Launched in Maryland and Colorado

Abortion rights supporters in Maryland and Colorado have launched campaigns to enshrine the right to abortion in their respective state constitutions.
The campaigns were announced on the 51st anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, which was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2022.
In Maryland, the proposed amendment would further secure abortion rights already protected by state law, and is seen as a response to other states restricting abortion access.
In Colorado, where there are currently no laws restricting abortion, the amendment would prevent future lawmakers from imposing restrictions.
Both amendments will need to gather sufficient signatures to be included on the November 2024 ballot.
