Overview

  • The assault unfolded just before 11 a.m. Sunday on the RER C platform at Gare d’Ablon-sur-Seine when a man in a djellaba demanded commuters’ religious affiliation.
  • Upon encountering silence, the attacker repeatedly cried “Allah Akbar,” attempted to stab the man with a cutter, and struck him with a wooden table leg.
  • The victim was treated for a broken arm and numerous bruises, and his friend who intervened also suffered minor wounds.
  • Station police arrested the assailant, who had no previous record, and he was subsequently hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation.
  • The Parquet de Créteil is investigating possible extremist motives and the suspect’s mental health in light of growing concern over lone-actor violence on public transport.
