Abitkar Presses Thane's 900-Bed District Hospital Toward December Completion

A lagging independent power supply triggered on-site orders to accelerate commissioning.

  • During a Nov. 12 inspection, Health Minister Prakash Abitkar told officials to hasten pending work, flagged delays in the independent power system, and said he is exploring an inauguration within about a month.
  • Civil Surgeon Dr. Kailash Pawar reported roughly 90% of construction complete with internal electrification and advanced equipment installation underway.
  • The complex will provide 900 beds split into a 500-bed general hospital, a 200-bed women’s facility, and a 200-bed super-speciality/referral block.
  • Officials expect completion by December end, followed by the creation of 1,078 medical and administrative posts to expand services for Thane and nearby districts.
  • A helipad designed for air ambulance operations was reviewed, and plans were announced for ANM, GNM and B.Sc. nursing colleges on the campus.
